The Acute Assessment Program provides specialized short term crisis intervention, risk assessment, rapid stabilization, symptom reduction and active treatment for people who require more mental health support than can be provided in the community.

Treatment is provided by a highly trained interprofessional team of healthcare professionals.

Any patient who requires longer lengths of stay may be referred to another program that better suits extended treatment needs.

At all times the focus of treatment is successful stabilization of mental health symptoms and reintegration to one’s community of choice.

an inpatient unit, including an extra-care area for persons that require closer observation and extra support
an immediate, short term assessment, with active treatment to address risk and stabilize acute symptoms
individualized daily assessment
Pharmaco-therapy
group and individualized therapy
a recovery orientated and strength based service where patients and family are encouraged to be active participants in the care plan including health promotion and discharge planning

Visiting a Patient

Prior to visiting, visitors are asked to contact the program for AAPs visiting hours.

On some occasions, patients may refuse to meet with visitors, even though they may have travelled a considerable distance. When this occurs, we respect the decision of the patient and we will provide support where appropriate. Waypoint may also restrict visiting hours for clinical or security reasons.
